When Laughter Becomes a Weapon
A moment like this needs a smile despite the pain
I have obviously been following along with much of the discussion here on Substack. Most of it has been very dark. I get it.
The death of Charlie Kirk. The removal of Jimmy Kimmel from late-night television. The awful job numbers. The spiraling economy.
It is certainly a time of serious thought and contemplation. We are in a struggle for what we want this country to look like versus what the other side wants to see.
Everybody, including myself, continues to look at the state of things and ask ourselves, βHow did we get here?β (feel free to make obligatory Talking Heads reference, see below)
The absolutely ridiculous demands that have been put on the people of this country have been astonishing. None of us should have to put up with the lies and removal of basic liberties that people are entitled to in this country.
I am proposing a thought experiment. This is especially to the people in the mainstream press and to the sane people in Congress.
I am not talking about one or two house members. If there is a hearing or meeting that involves cabinet members or heads of, say, the FBI, HSC, CBO, or any other of the heads of the many initialed agencies that help run the government.
If you ask a question, and you receive same old filibuster song and dance around the answer. Or if they give you an obvious lie for an answer. Laugh at them. Because we all know whatever response they give is a lie. Just start laughing.
If you get to ask the president a question and he gives the standard incoherent response, laugh.
If the person you are debating with gives an answer that is so MAGA, so delusional, just laugh at them. Make them uncomfortable. Make them feel embarrassed.
Instead of responding with anger and outrage, laugh at them. It would be the last thing they expect.
If they are going to take away our ability to laugh because of what a late show host said, or the president can't take a joke. Maybe we should start to find our amusement from the people in charge of the clown show. It is a circus after all.
They all put on so much makeup and fake tanner they look like a bunch of clowns anyway. And the answers they give are even funnier. So why don't we laugh at their ridiculous responses?
They won't know how to respond because they were the kids who got picked on in school. They are still little boys and girls. They are now on a permanent revenge tour. They feed off of outrage, so why don't we give them something they don't expect?
If they want to take away our laughter, we will just have to find some new entertainment to make us laugh. The Nazis that are in charge of our government right now seem like a good place to start.
Let's see them react to the absolute embarrassing failure that they have tried to wrestle this country into.
Maybe I'm just grasping at straws, but we have to hit them unexpectedly in some way.
Yelling and threatening do not seem to work. It just makes them react in harsh ways and makes it worse for us. What are they going to say. Waaah they were laughing at me.
They won't expect it, and it might just stun them a little bit. It might embarrass them just enough to make them second-guess themselves.
And let's face it, there is a lot to laugh at. We have Mara Lago-faced Barbie.
We have podcast hosts in top positions.
We also have christian nationalists that think we should turn back the clock 50 years, no to mention a Fox News host.
Last but certainly not least, we have a game show host overseeing the entire operation. Just yesterday the sad old orange taco said it is illegal to say mean things about the president.
How can we not laugh at something so juvenile? He is the most thin-skinned 79 year old I have ever heard of. Aw, did we hurt his little fee, fee's?
One would think the big, bad president could handle a little criticism.
The patients have certainly taken over the asylum. It makes me chuckle at least a little.
At this point I am willing to try just about anything. I would love to hear your thoughts on it. Maybe it's a dumb idea, but I am simply trying to come up with anything to change this current situation.
Believe me, NONE of this is a laughing matter. However, laughing releases hormones that help you feel good, and right now I think we could all use a little of that.
Love you all.

When I stumble into a "talk" with a MAGA member, I just smile and ask them if they truly believe whatever came out of their mouths. Wish them a good day and move on.
No point in raising my blood pressure.
