The boys being boys and men being men club needs burnt to ground. When they are not held accountable for the immoral and criminal acts, the behavior continues through generations.
100% agree. The fact that some (mostly? All?) men continue to run for office with a checkered past raises questions, answers of which are deeply discomforting. Like, do these men not think what they did was assault? Not all do- but it’s curious that some men don’t realize it.
But worse- do these men not realize how big a deal it is that they sexually assaulted someone? Like your point- it should be a deal breaker. But clearly it’s not. If it were Plattner wouldn’t have run. If people around him knew and encouraged him to run, they also admit: “I don’t think sexually assaulting someone is that big of a deal.”
Of course your assumption is that all candidates are men . The simple solution is to put forward mainly women candidates, who of course can also fail morally but are statistically less likely to be sexual predators. Problem solved😉
Definitely a reaĺ conundrum. One that we are all going to have to meet this head-on, no holds barred, no excuses. As a society we can no longer wait for friends and family to come to their senses. This regime is destroying this country on a daily basis. We are going to have to be so selective of our leadership that it is going to look like we are all without pity or understanding. We are going to have to appear as elitists as there is no time to be forgiving.
Erik, I TRIED to buy u a coffee, but something went wrong. also tried to send u a message but
instead it went to thread. Platner is bad, but corrupt administration of Maine governor, Janet Mills protects Rapists !!! OVER 14 DOCTORS + NURSES GANG RAPED + INTENTIONALLY
MEDICALLY HARMED ME AT MAINE MEDICAL CENTER ON 9/25/2005!!!!! THE STATE OF
MAINE HAS COVERED UP FOR THESE CRIMINALS SINCE AT LEAST 2020, WHEN I FILED
FORMAL COMPLAINTS WITH MAINE BOARD OF MEDICAL LICENSURE, + US ATTORNEY
FOR MAINE UNDER BIDEN- MCELWEE!!! THEY REFUSE TO HELP ME!!! MY LIFE - DESTROYED!!!
Well, I concur with the import of getting people in office who've taken up the Scout's Code, all twelve points of it, and striven to live with that as compass and guidepost. The issue that has left me sighing is this: Every single time; or, at least many times, there's a political actor who brings a message, and questions the issues that are crippling all of us little folk, who wonders why those of criminal self-serving intent get away with grift, graft, thievery and abuse and why no one stops them; every time someone garners a popular following, one that isn't an armed mob bent on violence; every time, the system finds their character seriously lacking (and maybe it is), and then at some threshold hour, they are brought down. I'm thinking, in addition to this latest event, Elliot Spitzer, New York State AG / Governor known as 'The Sheriff of Wall Street', who was lining up cases against banksters who should've been tried for fraud in the wreckage of the '08 financial crisis when, lo and behold, 'call girls' showed up; and, RFK (Bobby), who was looking hard at inequality and unequal justice also the shuck and jivery around the Teamster's Pension fund and at the peak of his rise, caught a bullet, and now this guy from Maine. Who maybe shouldn't have been running.
To my point: all the media and political actors are interrupting the many, many problems about to bubble over on us to cast shade on this situation. I hear, with one exception over the past days, NOBODY wondering how is it the corporate DNC didn't get ahead of this months ago? NOBODY, with one exception, is wondering, how do we, Democrats, pick up on Platner's very popular message in a way that might actually deliver a candidate who DOES follow the Scout's Code, root and branch, and also navigate the treacherous waters of The Money Machine that senses that it's fun party of financialist jiggery-pokery and selfishness is about to run out of steam? Better 'get it while we can'.
Sarah Kendzior recently noted that "... the uniparty is a one-hit wonder that plays the same track for decades. One set of donors, two sides of a counterfeit coin, and interlocking roles as GOP abuser and Dem enabler. It'll be The Market that sets the tune to which we dance. Still.
I don't want what they want. I don't want what they want me to want. We've had 'natural law' to enforce Enclosures, Enslavements and Extraction since the early 18th C. And every promise, every iteration leaves most of us less able to flourish.
Maybe this time I'll be surprised, and something like the common good will get footing; but, it hasn't since Reagan, and we'uns just keeps-a- getting a stream of trickle-down pouring down the hill.
I guess I don’t completely understand how anyone can forget the felons first time in office. He was already unhinged, and now he’s unhinged with dementia. The way he handled covid was unhinged. To me, the Biden Presidency was a balm helping the nation heal, and we were recuperating! But the disease has recurred, donald tRump is that disease.😢
Erik, every woman I know has been sexually harassed/abused at some point. It goes with being female. That means there are many, many abusers out there.
I would think it would be assumed by this point. It seems assuming good character is what got us here. Though we knew Trump was never of good character so there are definitely layers to this.
Vetting is important for the candidate, their spouse, and their children. Public office is a privilege that should be earned. Experienced candidates would have (should have) been vetted long before a senate run. Maybe those who are not narcissists, but instead have a calling to serve should start at the city council level where locals know their character. Then judge their policies and performance to see if they are worthy of holding higher office. Until this awful age of Trumpism experience and expertise for public office was valued. Now his administration is run by an ex-drug addict with a dead worm in his brain, and a plethora of Fox News Corp drunks and fellow sexual perverts who routinely fire seasoned professionals. Those may be current Republican values, but Democrats must provide a distinct contrast.
The boys being boys and men being men club needs burnt to ground. When they are not held accountable for the immoral and criminal acts, the behavior continues through generations.

Well said Jessi, thank you for adding your comment.
Tyranny wins when good men do nothing.
For good men, defeat is a greater honor than doing nothing.
Liberty or Death ain't no joke.
Revolution is the solution.
I think a base problem is something once stated by Isaac Asimov and others. There are a few variants. I don’t remember the exact wording.
“The only person appropriate to fill an elected office is someone who doesn’t want to do it.”
Draft people who can, but don’t want to do it, and their prize for doing a good job is they are allowed to retire.
That is a very interesting quote. I also think it is a very good idea.
Of course your assumption is that all candidates are men . The simple solution is to put forward mainly women candidates, who of course can also fail morally but are statistically less likely to be sexual predators. Problem solved😉

Then I called The Clinton Foundation to see if
Hillary would help me- even though I voted
For her + for Bill in 1992, worked for their
Election, they never returned my calls/
Responded to my phone message! Well of
Course Bill Clinton endorsed Cuomo even in
2025/ Against Mamdani- so corruption runs
Deep in NY!!! Hillary didn’t choose to support
Me - a rape victim- because I wasn’t important enough!!!
And Chuck Schumer is a RAT!!! Not only is he
Enabling War Crimes against Israel’s neighbors - for which he should be forced to
Resign from leadership/ Senate- but he Failed
Me as his constituent in 2024, stringing me
Along for over a year after I asked for help
With the cover up at US Attorney of East NY!!
Was it incompetence/ Corruption or both???
They never returned my calls as they promised!!! If you’ve ever tried to call Schumer/ Jeffries offices since 2024 - they
Never answer their phones!!! Nothing says
Disrespect of constituents like never having
Live staff answering phones!!! Schumer
Is not a rapist himself- but he doesn’t give
A damn about his constituents or women’s
Rights- he’s probably all about money!!!
Unless it was one of his daughters getting
Raped I don’t think he really cares!!!
I'm so sorry Judy.
THANK YOU, ERIK.

Well said my friend. Maybe a new realization will come about after all of this monstrous behavior. I am not confident but I will still hope.

We are all broken. We all sin. But many politicians seem to have NO moral compass.
Agreed
Erik, every woman I know has been sexually harassed/abused at some point. It goes with being female. That means there are many, many abusers out there.
dB
And that is awful.
Absolutely, Brother.
There's that question, and there are others that must be answered truthfully and before anyone can be considered a candidate for anything.
Have you ever committed a felony, been charged and convicted?
Have you ever assaulted anyone in any way, been charged and convicted?
Those along with the one that you posed are just for starters.
We must properly and fully gauge any potential candidates moral compass or lack thereof, and approve a candidacy accordingly...
Should have started with Trump and the likes of Platner... though it should always have been part of the process.
I would think it would be assumed by this point. It seems assuming good character is what got us here. Though we knew Trump was never of good character so there are definitely layers to this.
