Duty as a Citizen
Our job as a government
We are the government. When we are threatened by our representatives, doesn't this mean it's time to remove them?
Last time I checked, if we are being threatened from a foreign land or a domestic entity, is that not what our tax dollars for-for our defense? The Big Ugly Bill put 900 billion dollars up for our military. That is money from our pockets!
Is it not a fact that the military is owned by us? Isn't this supposed to be the time they are called to action to protect the people? If the National Guard is coming to our cities, they should be protecting us, not the other way around.
When men and women from unknown agencies are kidnapping people, shouldn’t that be a crime? Is that not domestic terror? Isn’t that a call to action for our law enforcement to stop it?
The government officials have forgotten their place. We put those people in power. They are elected under the presumption they will do what we ask.
Nobody in this country except for the billionaires asked us to change our system of government from a democracy. We never wanted to side with a Russian dictatorship. We have had allies in NATO that have been our friends for decades. Why are we abandoning them?
Are there differences in opinion between nations? Of course. This doesn't mean that we just abandon our allies. We are not a nation that is America First; we are a nation of immigrants. Our country is supposed to be one of acceptance. We are a nation that is supposed to have outstretched hands to embrace diversity. We are supposed to welcome the stranger. This is what should make us great.
We are a nation that is supposed to consider people that are different from us as neighbors.
When did this country lose its soul? Tech bros and oligarchs running our government was never what the majority wanted. We have been a nation that looked to freedom and mutual aid as our North Star.
We have never wanted kings or dukes or serfs. In fact it was just the opposite. The goal was that everybody has an equal shot. I know we have a long way to go. But the goal, the idea, the thing that we are supposed to reach for is a life where everyone can make ends meet.
Why haven't we outgrown this stupid idea that it matters what color your skin is, or your country of origin, or the religion you practice. This was a nation that had privacy and freedom of thought.
These cultural wars should be a thing of the past. These are the outrages of small people that hate themselves.
As a reminder. This is what Adolf Hitler did to Jewish people. He sent men around the country and removed people that were Jewish. He also did it to people that were gay. He did it to people that were disabled. He did it to people that didn't practice his version of Christianity.
What are we doing?
Do we really want to be a country that imitates what Germany did in the early 20th century? Why?
Doesn’t it make you sick to your stomach? Why would we want to be a country known for detaining millions and separating families? Being responsible for the death of millions of adults and children?
What kind of sick, depraved hypocrisy is this? Meanwhile, half, if not more of these people that support these criminals claim to be Christians.
ATTENTION CHRISTIANS: Read your bibles! Christ DID NOT teach you to hate people that don't look like you. Read your bibles, please.
Do you want to find out later that the Trump administration has been pulling what Hitler did all those years ago? Does mass killing line up with what Jesus taught? (Sidebar: there are some Christians who believe that Jesus was God and therefore responsible for flooding the earth and commanding genocide on a number of occasions.)
Many Germans didn't know until after WWII what Hitler was doing. He used the same type of propaganda that this administration is using now. Denigrating people that aren't white, straight, and Christian.
Do we really want to forever be known as an idiocracy? Do we really want to be known as an isolationist country that turned its back on the world?
We can be so much better. We have so many beautiful talents. Our strengths are innumerable. We can be known as the country that ended starvation, plague, and hate!
We need compassion, empathy, and love to light the way back home.

Thank you Erik. The challenge is "what to do?" I often feel powerless. I see injustice around me and I don't know how to challenge it.
Great write-up!
We hired them when we elected them, therefore WE should be able to fire them.
Further, SCOTUS should be elected not appointed, should be bipartisan, impartial, evenly distributed between parties with the one odd one being the tie breaker. They should be on term limitations.
