Bravery
An act of incredible bravery
I am so amazed by the women that stood up yesterday. Speaking their truth to America despite the implied threat from Trump and his sycophants.
They knew the dangerous move they were making. Their brave act will echo through time. It will resonate with women today and will be remembered in future generations.
Thomas Massie (R- Kentucky), joined by Ro Khanna (D-California) is introducing a bill called the “Epstein Files Transparency Act.” The name of the bill essentially tells you what the bill is for. Releasing the files to the victims at least is only proper. They went through enough mental anguish; it would only be fair.
In all, 8 people of the roughly 100 victims got up and spoke about the monster that Jeffrey Epstein was.
Some interesting things were revealed during the conference. One thing that was mentioned was that this is not about sides. This is about finding justice for the years of abuse that these women had to endure. They deserve closure.
Another one of the victims brought up a very important question. The question “Why did Epstein get such protection?”
Why didn’t those girls, when they were teens, possibly even younger, get any kind of court acknowledgement? They deserved at least some retribution. Instead they were left with a mountain of unresolved mental damage. None of their mental pain was acknowledged, and in some cases these poor women took their own lives.
At one point, one of Virginia Giuffre's family members decided to speak on her behalf. If you didn't know, Ms. Giuffre took her own life several months ago.
He said that she told his family that “I have physical and mental scars that will never heal” as her relative read her statement through tears. Now she is gone, and it is heartbreaking. If only she were able to hold on a little longer, I am sure she would have been thrilled to see these brave women come out to fight.
Another sad statistic that was acknowledged by one victim mentions that 1 of every 5 women will experience sexual assault during their lives. These assaults happen every 74 seconds. In addition, every 9 minutes a child is assaulted. It is appalling.
Another item that was mentioned during the conference was that the victims of these monsters are considering making their own list of individuals that participated in these heinous acts.
The last thing I learned from the press conference was that Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislane Maxwell liked to brag about all the people they knew. Pulling these poor kids into their twisted plans. One of the people they liked to talk about was none other than…of course it's Donald Trump. According to this victim, he even had an 8x10 photo of those two together.
The only pictures I have are of my kids. If you have an 8x10 of another man hanging in your office, something tells me you might know each other. So I think we can put the idea that those two were close as confirmed.
These women did an amazing thing. They spoke out in the face of massive political pressure. They took our government to task and called out the president to release the unredacted files. That is bravery you don't see every day.
As a father of three young women, I couldn’t imagine the pain and suffering they have gone through. It would make for a lifetime of mental strain I couldn’t comprehend.
I hope that my children never have to encounter such a fate as these women. Such wrong is done to so many women, and our government does nothing to improve their lives. Maybe based on today's presser, that will put enough pressure on our feckless congress to do the right thing.
These women came forward and showed that they are bigger, stronger, and braver than Donald Trump could ever hope to be.
Thank you,
Love you guys,
Erik

P.S. Not one major network carried the conference live on television. Shameful.

I was actually surprised to see my local evening news reporting about the conference. I watched the entire thing on YouTube, of course (it wasn't on network), and was moved to tears more than once. The jet flyovers and the current president holding a simultaneous news conference where he claimed the whole thing was a hoax, was beyond heinous. Later, when he suggested that the one GOP male who signed onto it was an "insurgent," and should be "taken out," shows a new low for him when we thought he couldn't go any lower.
I composed an email to my congressman while I watched, encouraging him to get on the "right side of history," but I know he won't. He's a sycophant afraid of losing his tenuous grip on power. My current plan is to remind him and my senators weekly that although their names will most assuredly be associated with America's descent into fascism and encouraging a wannabe dictator to run roughshod over our experiment in democracy, there is an option; wouldn't they rather be remembered as one of the folks who took a stand against it?
Thanks for this article. I agree with you one hundred percent.
I stand with these courageous Women who stood up publicly against those notable powerful and wealthy abusers who would rather save their own sick hides by deceit than take responsibility for their actions, for dooming these Women to a lifetime of torment.
They deserve to be heard loud and clear, without being further victimized by their abusers, trump and his administration, the GOP and the public.
They deserve to be believed!
