Liberaldad, your post reminded me that a few months ago I researched the worst Medicaid programs in the country, and the very worst was in Tennessee. But, this is a low, even for them. https://tntribune.com/tn-doctors-warn-about-cuts-to-tenncare-and-snap-programs/

Will that same dr refuse care to her partner?

Or are we just going to continue to demonize women only.

🫤I found a few articles…. am looking for the Medical Ethics Defense Act to see if the Act is in question for Constitutional Rights

Pregnant Mother in Tennessee Denied Care for Being Unmarried

The 2025 Medical Ethics Defense Act allows physicians to deny care to patients whose lifestyles they disagree with

At the bottom of my article if you click on the underlined link that says TN REPRO, it will take you right to the article that verifies it actually did happen. Sorry for the miscommunication

After women were granted the right to vote, they still did NOT have the right to have full autonomy over their own bank accounts. A husband could drain the bank accounts of the women in his family, regardless of whether or not the woman consented or not, and furthermore, he could do so without the account passbook (which was required to be presented in order for any transaction to take place).

Stephen King wrote about this exact situation in his novel “Dolores Claiborne” and in the film adaptation, Kathy Bates illustrated this double standard in the title role. I thank them both for illuminating this fact for me, as it was not taught in school, nor was such information to be found in any school textbooks.

Liberaldad's avatar

I know, it's crazy. Women only got to buy things without the consent of their husband only a few decades ago. That is mind-boggling to me.

I'm so ashamed that I live in Tennessee. Part of my family is from here, and I've lived here since I was 4 years old. I am not in a position to be able to leave. I wish I were.We were once proudly called the Volunteer State. Nowi call it the volunteer to hate state.

Liberaldad's avatar

I'm so sorry. Hopefully that law will get overturned TN maybe gets a few more blue legislators. I am sure this is a very unpopular thing even in a deep red state

As an older woman with two married daughters. (Our son and his wife are expecting their 1st baby in 3 weeks-our 1st grandchild.) I fear for them should any problems arise w/bearing children. Pregnancy even with support is risky enough. We live in one of the strictest abortion "red states" west of the Rockies. Our kids have reassured us they already have a "backup plan" for how to get help-nothing short of flying out of the country. (One of them is an RN, so she feels confident about networking.) THIS is what we've been reduced to! This fascist gov't is blatantly attempting to regulate and control women (50% of our nation's citizenry) into "chattel." An image that eerily draws a resemblance to the Taliban...OMFG! "Keep em' dumb, deprived, pregnant, and/or dead."

My family will hopefully be okay, bc they've got resources. But what about the unmarried woman from TN, being denied empathy and prenatal care? Who is fighting for her and her unborn baby? What's next?-A scarlet letter? The Hippocratic Oath or the Geneva Agreement following WWII, remain applicable rules of ethics for many doctors, but apparently not in TN (or other red states). OBGYN docs, afraid of lawsuits, prison, or disbarrmeant are FLEEING my state; leaving OBGYN deserts in several areas. It is mind numbing for to me to see women's reproductive rights and freedoms being stripped away bit by bit by a fascist, hypocritical, misogynistic, christian nationalistic gov't!! Did all of those smug, GOP "pedo male" hypocrites in the gov't and religious organizations forget that it takes two to create a baby? Where's the outrage for the other half of the DNA contributors?

Thank you again, for addressing this issue and so many others!! We have to FIGHT THIS!!

Liberaldad's avatar

Absolutely. I agree I cannot believe this gross backslide. And it's all because these "alpha males" are afraid of women. They are scared to talk to women because god forbid they bring out feeling that they are unfamiliar with so instead they thinks it's easier to hate women. Because they view vulnerability as weakness.

LittleLT's avatar

You forgot “barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen”. Like a brood-mare capable of fulfilling domestic duties and obligated to absorb domestic violence without complaint…except that brood-mares were/are usually treated better because they’re worth more money.

Liberaldad's avatar

Yeah these morons want women in "traditional roles" which is total garbage.

This is likely to happen more and more. And one of the federal agencies removed language around the requirement to serve people, regardless of marital status, political party, etc. So I believe doctors could feasibly refuse to treat someone based on being a democrat. This is not acceptable, obviously.

And what people are missing is that we can stop or slow this if we unite and shut the economy down through labor and consumption withdrawal. Because so long as we keep going to work and consuming the way we always have we are continuing to prop up the system and giving our consent.

We legitimize it by participating . And I know it’s hard, and I know there’s sacrifice, and I know there’s risk involved. But the people united are more powerful than this tiny predatory class that’s writing the laws. But only if unite. And Time is running out.

Eric, you hit the nail on the head. This is fast becoming a technocracy without regard for humanity, values. I thought it crazy when first reading about Thiel, et al’s plan, but piece by piece it is coming to fruition.

I'm forwarding this to my soon-to-be-retired priest, who's been lacerated by the 'sanitized jesus' contingent since he set foot at the lectern for bringing this very message. About extending to all of the community. How's that passage go, 'neither Greek nor hittite nor Egyptian, .... but all, All are one.'

Thanks for sharing this. Another roll of scanners with which to address all the loose nuts and screws...

I'm pyrhically enjoying a Kubric visual moment with that, Neighbor: sole survivor Dave pulling the chips out of Hal's central processing unit while it loses 'control' devolves to singing "Daisy"...

"I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly and take a stress pill and think things over... I know I've made some very poor decisions recently; but I can give you my complete assurance..." I'll share that moment, here; and for some reason, it brings me to some sort of tears today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwCFY6pmaYY

I find this passage even more chilling than when I saw it in the Dixon Theater, back in the previous century. As is said now, "It was supposed to be a warning, not a blueprint".

Thanks. Happy Sunday.

Please, Don't feel ashamed to be an American. You are just the kind of American we need more of. Yes, We, the People need to do more. We need protests everyweekend, Nationwide. Boycott Corporations that have capitulated to Trump and his Authoritarian Administration. We need to show the "Money Men" No More. Write letters to your Reps. and Senators. Especially in Red States. They need to know we won't stand for the BBB and the White Christian National Fascists that use Religion to push their control onto us, We, the People.

Unfortunately, the Tennessee story could be true. Many living in Colonial states suffer from laws passed in a different age. I hope it isn't.

you're correct Liberaldad, we are required to keep our eyes and mouths open.

Liberaldad's avatar

See the update. The story is indeed true and verified

My son in law is a General Practitioner in England, and the self-centered positions being pushed on us in the States makes him sick. It’s his One Job to help people—not by marital status, not by religious beliefs, simply help and heal to the best of his abilities.

Sometimes there's just no words. I noticed the uncapitalized "american". I feel the same. I never ever thought I'd be ashamed of this country but I am. There is a countless number of spiritualies, religions and non -religions and this country was supposed to be founded upon separation of church and state. We keep preaching to the choir, but I feel like none of us has power to right the ship. Congress and the Senate failed us. I'm afraid to live here. I've become afraid of my own country. So yes, I find joy every day in moments, music, nature, my friends and own company. I offer refuge and safe haven for everyone who needs it. It's all I can do. I make the calls, write the letters, protest, go to the food bank while it's still there and share what I can. I feed birds. Because nature is my church. In all her purity. Maybe she will end the plague humanity has become. Climate change is being dismissed....it could end us. I will fler if things get as bad as projected here in your post. I'll take with me every marginalized friend I have.

Liberaldad's avatar

I chose not to capitalize american on purpose, you are correct. We have to do what we are able to do. As a collective, it will be the only way to fix this.

Wait what?? So “Christian” Christ-like medical professional who stands on his/her moral high ground is putting a baby’s life at risk?? Not providing this care is not just denying unmarried mom’s care but increases risks to her and an innocent baby. You know…the ones the Christians are so adamant and vitriolic to defend. Cherry picking and putting innocent lives at risk. WWJD. I also feel this is a clear violation of the Hippocratic oath regarding the ethical conduct and commitment to patient well-being. Shame, shame, shame.

An Advocate for Spirit's avatar

Sometimes medical professionals are damned if they do or damned if they don't assist. When djt entered office, he saw us as a four-legged table. To destroy a table, all one has to do, is kick out one leg- our nations most vulnerable, to initiate his system of chaos. But by not assisting, Dr's are giving permission to the harm to occur. Either way, they violate their Hippocratic Oath of- " Do No harm ".

As a nurse for 41 years, I get this. 😕

Liberaldad's avatar

Yep it's an absolutely absurd law

This was a great opinion piece. They speak with forked tongue and there is a lot of deception. We are the Morality police. Christ did not call us to do this. America is declining. I like was you said at the end of the article, we, those that care, have to help wherever we can.
