*******
Last week during a town hall event in Tennessee, a woman claimed that she was denied prenatal care because she wasn’t married. I have been unable to verify this story but if so, this is unjust and morally reprehensible and it makes my blood boil.
There is currently a law on the books in Tennessee TN SB0955. The bill allows for people who administer healthcare to refuse treatment based on ethics, morality or religious grounds.
Now, I stand up for what is morally right. I know the difference between right and wrong. However the government is not the morality police, though it certainly seems we are heading that way. When it comes to healthcare however, you must know when you're in training that you will encounter people from all different walks of life. Refusing people who need help because a person is not married is unjustifiable.
Prenatal care should not be based on marriage. What if a child was raped for that matter what if anyone were raped?
So, if you don’t like a particular sect of Christianity can you just deny that person because you have a different preference in certain religious ceremonies? What if you believe in infant baptism and the doctor believes in baptism when you are an adult?
Better yet what if someone happens to be Christian and the doctor is Muslim? Could you imagine the outrage?
The law doesn’t specify what religious values you hold. Obviously we can assume it’s Christianity but that is not what the law says. It just says religious reasons for denial of service. Way too vague and that is what makes it so insidious.
There are going to be more problems with healthcare very soon. this Especially simce healthcare is taking a huge funding hit. The ridiculous budget reconciliation bill passed so we are heading towards more and more healthcare deserts.
So in the case of this woman what does she do? What if the only doctor within one hundred miles won’t treat her? What if she has an ectopic pregnancy and she has no way of getting to the next closest doctor? Is it just too bad so sad? “sorry you’re not married” really??
If this story is States, those lawmakers are only in the business of doing harm to people. Funny thing is doctors take an oath to FIRST DO NO HARM. How about that.
Once again it is another disgraceful, ugly and purposely harmful bill to hurt people. Morality and ethics waived goodbye to these lawmakers long, long ago. These lawmakers should not be able to hide behind their religion. In fact, if we are talking about Christianity, Jesus was an advocate for those that were less fortunate and these politicians instead dress him up with a MAGA hat and an AR-15.
I am ashamed to call myself an american. Making laws to intentionally hurt people is disgusting. And yes it has been happening for a long time, but the mask is truly off. These people are actively trying to harm us. Just look at the last six months! Its been nothing but chaos and threats and lost jobs and lost rights.
This is no longer the United States, this is a corporate take over under authoritarian rule.
We have to start making big waves.
We have to make sure they can no longer ignore us.
We have to stand up for one another.
We have to welcome the people who voted for the wrong guy.
We have to show compassion and empathy to those that don’t understand this moment.
Reach out to the people who are near you, ask them if they need help.
Let them know if they need something that you will be there.
We are entering a time where things will continue to get worse. Until we make the toadys in charge pay attention, they will continue to take from us.
I know this has been a difficult post to read but I am just trying to be as forthright as possible. Thank you for reading my articles. I had no idea so many people would be interested in what I’ve had to say. Nevertheless every kind word, every like and repost you guys send me means the world to me.
Thank you so much for your encouragement and for letting me know that there are good people in this world even when things seem at their worst. Hopefully soon we will right this ship.

As a nurse, I've got a lot to say about this. Unfortunately, most of it is screaming obscenities so I'll be brief here. When you TAKE AN OATH TO DO NO HARM you either abide by it and see NOTHING BUT THE HUMAN BEING WHO NEEDS HELP or you suck like a collapsed lung at professional medical care. A hospital isn't your Auntie's house where you can be judged openly and freely for your personal choices, a hospital (or medical facility) is a temple in which ONLY THE BODY (and it's organizing, operating parts and pieces) is considered. This law flies in the face of the oath, the intent and the purpose of medicine. It is FILTH of the highest order. Frankly, from what I know of Jesus, he would slap the snot out of every single one of them.
One of the fascist women in Congress said on TicToc that it’s not her job to make sure her constituents have health care, but rather to make sure they are free. Free to die I guess.
