I too am in a dark place Eric, and I live in Australia. I am crying for the decent humans in America and those who can’t fight back. I’m crying for my own government who I know will do nothing to stand up to your dictator- just grovel in hopes of getting a few crumbs. I’m crying for a world who is not calling out these fascists, hiding their faces from all the red flags that this is not situation normal. Just know that some of us over here are standing with you and reading your words.
Dear Liberaldad, your essay is beautiful and sad. I think your children are lucky to have you. I know it probably doesn't help to know how many of us are in that dark place with you. To me it's all the sadder that anyone has to be in that place, but here we are. Having grown up in an admittedly imperfect but always striving America, with freedoms and laws and justice, and now growing old while watching it all being disappeared before our eyes by insanity, tyranny and hate, I am weeping as I write this. Asking how this could happen to our America is an impotent question, and I feel stupid having it run through my mind. I know civilizations fall, but I never expected this until that creature took the election. The dread and certainly of the outcome have been slowly killing my soul, but I still give it CPR every day, hoping to keep it alive until something positive can come out of all we are trying to do to save something of the America and the life we want.
Thank you my friend. There are truly millions of us, and one day I hope we will all rise to understand our power if we work as one. I hope to see the day that we are able to right this ship. I will continue to fight until I can no longer do so. Thank you for your kind words.
Politicians run for office to make life better for Americans. Or so I thought. I'm completely disillusioned and angry and sad. This treatment of immigrants is detestable. I never thought I would see this in my lifetime.
Agree with everything you have said. Let me add our planet is slowing being destroyed and policies put in place to try to move to renewable energy to move away from fossil fuels are being rolled back. There are countries that are slowly becoming uninhabitable due to climate change. Those people are having to leave due to the unrest caused by this and yet we are too cruel to let them come here even though we currently have a worker shortage. These are not murderers and rapists. These are people who want to feed their families in a safe environment.
Thank you for your writing. It’s so difficult dealing with family who support trump. The decades of memories are all that’s left. There’s no current communication or interaction. That’s sad and it makes me angry. Our country is paying a terrible price for the division that been fomented by trump and his minions. At my age, I won’t have to endure the damage in the future but my children and grandchildren will.
I wish I could become a contributing member, however, I'm already very low income and on some government assistance. I have some health problems and an only child. My daughter is an adult but when I go, it will just be her. The cuts to Medicaid will shorten my lifespan. I know this. I never thought that I would fear my government or hate someone. I used to believe that love and hate could not live in the same heart. But I'm more than love my daughter and I'm more than hate Trump and his evil, greedy traitors. Every day I wake up and like minions, I wonder is he dead yet? I can't afford anything and I've worked and I've struggled. I don't understand how we got to this place. I don't understand how he was allowed to run for president after he sent his cult to attack the capital. I don't understand anyone that supports him and calls themselves in American. Believe me, if I could, I would support you.
Your support words are more than enough support. Thank you so much for reading my articles. I am so sorry you are dealing with health and economic strain. I hope justice will come swiftly as we fight through these tough times. You are loved. Take care.
Thank you. I’m healing and soon i’ll have a bit more money. I boycott so many companies, i’ll be a paid supporter soon. There are many doing worse than I.
Thank you for your heartfelt letter! It really resonated with me. I am so sorry for the political division pains you too are experiencing. We too, suffer from this. I can't currently speak to most of my extended family bc they all drank the tRump kool-aid his first time around. It breaks my heart. My husband and I have even struggled to 100% agree in some cases, but overall we agree. We also live in one of the most extreme red states. Add to my angst- a bi-racial Asian family, a very smart and capable adult trans daughter, whom we support, but anguish over for her future in all of this. She relocated to a blue state to feel safer. Yes, that is where we are as a society now. Every fibre of our beings tell us to, "get out of the country! " We are learning Spanish as a backup as we want options to help her (and us) leave if need be. However, I really don't want to leave, but I will if it gets to that. Our other grown children seem busy with their lives to fully recognize the danger we feel that the U.S is being catapulted towards.
Am I overreacting? Somedays, the news is so bad that I think not. I just want our old future back. You know the one we all shared. The one where the U.S. was still a beacon of hope and promise, equality and fairness,of power and resilience over greed and power grabs. Safe from billionaires and politician bad-actors who are crushing any American who dares to defy them while they drool for even more soul-crushing power and riches. The one where the good guys and underdogs are celebrated and have happy endings. The dream where we all work, save, care for the earth and ALL of it's inhabitants (people, fauna, and animals) with respect, raise our children, care for our fragile elders and veterans, educate minds, respect all cultures and humans (not just the white humans), provide healthcare and sound medical care to all citizens, respect and support all genders and the LGBTQ population. We respect and collaborate peacefully with our global international allies, allow for freedom of the press and not just the syncophantic news outlets who've kissed the ring. We follow and foster scientific research, promote and embrace ALL cultures of art, philosophy, and music, worship-or not worship with freedom, and our military is not used as pawns to crush its citizens' rights. You know, the future where we ALL play by the rules of law laid down by our Constitution (NOT the cherry picked rules that are twisted to suit the fascist GOP and billionaire CEOs' agendas).
All of what you said could be true. I come from a place of hope, faith and charity for all. Life is hard enough on all of us. 72 percent of the people, stayed home, a decided they were tired 😴 of media , that is common knowledge. People who interfered with laws that needed to be past in the Senate, seemed to be a common thing. We have some establishment politicians who need to find common sense. People who believe in political smut. Scandal thy name is false. I know, that Joyce Vance is coming out with a book 📕 on democracy. I can’t wait until it arrives. Former Representative, Liz Cheney came out with a beautiful book. Never found it at all. People complaining about, this or that. However, I find our protest to be nonviolent in manner. I’m very honored that they were. I have found independent journalism to be very effective., for all of us. This media site has worked for me in many ways. Have a most blessed, Sunday everyone.
That’s why at the Catholic Church that I participate here in California and across the state. We have been praying wholeheartedly.
Ice so they came here have in LA County at a church . This man had just received his passport and had gone to church to say thank you to God but we all know God is with us everywhere we go needless to say ice agents came and arrested him. The pastor of the church yelled out hey he just was here. To say he was here to give thanks. He has his passport. They didn’t even listen and off. They took him and we don’t know where like so many they disappear. All I can say is pray whatever religion or faith you are. I think it’s time to bend the knee (knees) to the one who created this little blue Earth That is amongst the Milky Way. Thank you for your words, your emotions and your love.. . Don’t give up. 🤗
Many of us are with you. Sadly, your hatred may only harm you, so take care. Channel that hate into action. History shows us that large numbers of peaceful demonstrations and other resistance, not violence, have toppled authoritarian governments.
I agree. I think violence will come from the Trump regime. I do not plan for any violence whatsoever. As far as hate goes, I am doing my best to be a joyful warrior. It’s a struggle.

Im sorry Sue.

Me too. They have been given the green light to just release their pent up hatred

The bill can not go thru
God I hope so

You're good dad and man. All people conscience are on guard against the Darkness.
The biggest problem with this bill is that it benefits so many Congresspeople, why wouldn't they vote for it.
Moral clarity? Evidently not.
Not even a hint

I related to this on so many levels. Thank you.
