Time to stand up and let's do to Florida what we did to Musk. Cancel them so they have to close the concentration camp and earn other states that dare to build them we won't stand by without a fight

I think it’s really important to let all three branches of government know how we feel, not just the legislature.

Here's a bit of advice for anyone thinking about working at Alligator Auschwitz: most Nazi camp guards never made it to trial. The Allied forces who liberated the camps were so horrified by the sights and smells that they shot most of them.

So, so true. My heart is aching right now. I’m thinking about all those people’s lives that will be irreparably harmed because of all the cruelty being heaped on them. I will continue to support and stand up for ALL of them. I’m hoping our protests get bigger and louder. I’m also hoping those people who voted the Republicans in have FINALLY had their eyes opened.

I truly hope so

This is so inhumane. I am so sickened. To see the republicans celebrating like they won the world series shows me just shows me how evil and wicked they are. What those politicians have shown me since this bill was introduced is that they are slaves, brainwashed by money and cruelty and tRump.

I write this on every Substack it seems and no one ever comments, but I’ll keep trying: what happens if/when they take away the internet or electricity is gone? We RELY on these Substack and other independent sources online for info. WHAT IS PLAN B? Imagine that ten seconds after reading this everything went dark. Where would you turn for news? Real news. Not some shit Trump will have piped in via loud speakers via army tanks…

Liberaldad's avatar

I wish I had a good answer. Try to make acquaintance with your neighbors and try to discuss contingency plans. Buy some canned goods and non perishable food. I know its meager advice but maybe its something to start with

Kelly's avatar

I appreciate your thoughtful response. Trust me, I e seen this train wreck coming and I’m about as ready as I can be, but I can’t control electricity or internet. I want to hear that Meidas has plans for AM radio…and then I want the station…just in case. And my neighbors, I do know them. And that’s part of the problem. I’d imagine that is EVERYONE’s problem. Because I have some that lean this way, and some that lean that. However, desperate people do desperate things. I simply want to be realistic and practical.

Understandable

Human nature is a hard thing to overcome. Beating someone is easier than reading a book. Democracy's only weakness, is rule by an ignorant majority...How they do it with minority support,

beats me.

This is a very pertinent point, and very likely the most pertinent point of all. This is not new. In fact, it's biblical, whether we know it or not; Solomon wrote that there is nothing new under the sun. It goes all the way back to Cain killing Abel, brother killing brother. The names change, the strategy and tactics for doing evil change, the persecuted groups change, even the explanations change.

Then (on those occasions for which we can thank God), before the human race destroys itself altogether, people realize they *have to* stop it before everybody dies. Konrad Adenauer, the first Chancellor of (West) Germany after World War II, reportedly looked on the ruins of the bombing, and said that unless Christ intervened, the human race had no hope. Or words to that effect. Is that what it will take before the madness stops, and things are built back better, as President Joe intended/ stated?

I hope not. I pray that it doesn't come to that, but while I'm praying, I look around for ways to help. Including, but not limited to, standing ready with video and (almost) eagerly waiting for Pinochet II's secret police to just TRY to kidnap someone on my watch. As for me, getting less and less interested in being careful about that.

The comparisons to Nazi Germany are particularly loud at the present moment, but I try to balance it out, in two ways. One, I see no need to add my voice to those comparisons right now; I strategically save it for when such outcry is at a (relatively) low ebb. At those times, as I've been doing for weeks now, I share and restack and mock every single photo of the Nazi Stephen Miller (I've officially dropped the "neo" part of Nazi from describing him), and share every shred of pertinent information I can find about what he's doing now. Broadcast the Mildew's doings to the uttermost parts of the earth. (Vought, Thiel, Noem, and others also have Wanted and Bounty posters in progress.)

Not to mention the TACO in chief. It really is true about President Chicken. Buck-buck-bugGAHH!

The second way I look to counterbalance the doomsaying (which is often disguised as vital and necessary venting and emoting...and vice versa) is to look for more hopeful comparisons, which are no more out of the question than things getting so bad that I (and others) deem it necessary to leave the country for my own and my loved ones' safety. (We're applying for our passports as we speak.) Hopeful examples are France 1968, Portugal 1974, and many more successful and relatively peacefully overthrown dictatorships.

Is this kind of hope possible? Yes, it is. I won't back down from that. But is it inevitable? No, of course not. That would be false hope.

But the same goes for Nazi comparisons. Inevitable? No, but we might as well surrender now if it is. But possible? We wouldn't be commenting, posting, and exhorting one another if it weren't.

One more note of hope: as a longtime member of a black family and community, though white myself, I have my ear to the ground as to how people here are building, preparing, and mobilizing - and believe me, people are. Ask anyone who has lived under an actual, totalitarian police state, or segregated U.S. or any other version thereof, where we are and what we need to be doing. They'll tell you. Don't necessarily ask me. I don't have all the answers. None of us does. But all of us, it bears repeating, can do something. And something is better than nothing.

All God's best, to you and everyone on here, and everyone reading this.

In many ways we still echoe the unevolved attitudes of our ancestors. Many of us are still stuck in the primitive form of fight or flight. Many of us have never developed critical thinking abilities and mistakenly rely on the wisdom of others, whom we deem more informed than ourselves.

I often think, that despite our current world population of 8 Billion people, there are solutions that could be found for all of the problems that plague humanity. I realize this sounds like a fantasy.

We have the technology, the knowledge and the riches to ensure that nobody suffers from lack of the basic necessities for survival.

But because of the us and them attitudes we are force fed and cling to in our misinformed sense of self righteousness, solutions for the well being of all mankind are not pursued as a top priority.

We hoard obscene amounts of riches in greed. We destroy hundreds of tons of food each year to keep prices stable. We subsidize the research for medicines and then leave the resulting miracle drugs in the control of pharmaceutical pirates, whose only concern is profit. And we distract ourselves with force-fed consumerism, to briefly satisfy our feelings of a hollow spiritual existence, with the false joy of possessing mere objects.

Our numerous religions, which theoretically share the base belief of love and kindness, are rarely preached with messages of the heart. Instead, throughout history, religion has been weaponized to keep us at war with each other. War is profit and power. Empathy and compassion for those that differ from us are weakness. Hate is much more lucrative.

I've wondered many times through my life why we still exist? No matter what GOD or creator you believe in, does it not seem reasonable that this deity would look down upon us in utter disgust and decide to erase the entire experiment as an abject failure? Wouldn't our complete disrespect and abuse of our glorious planet and our violent contempt for its inhabitants warrant such a decree of annihilation? Even an atheist cannot deny that we are headed towards the same fate, through our own actions.

I don't have the solution to the insurmountable task of uniting people for the well being of all mankind, but I believe that those of us who are good decent people far outnumber those who are only satiated by hate and greed.

We cannot change the past, but each morning that we are fortunate enough to reawaken, the future is ours to collectively determine.

I still cannot believe that he refuses to send the food stuck in warehouses to starving people. And to withhold the medication that was donated by Merck, for the treatment of AIDs in Africa!

Just such a friggen waste of dollars… the farmers always knew that the excess that we don’t consume heads over to stave off death from malnutrition. But there it sits, in a warehouse in NJ, rotting away instead of being eaten by children who are eating sand. Sand!

Specifically, the First Amendment states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances", according to the Online Library of Liberty.

I find it very wrong that the constitution is being pulled apart by those who pick and choose what parts they want and parts they want to ignore !

An easy example of this is the very first subject of the “Bill of Rights” which is ignored and trampled on by those who try to dictate what is says when almost all of us know how to read !

I’m an evangelical and me and my wife left the church immediately after we we learned that our pastor was a maga , we never went back and we don’t regret it , the fact that religion has always been used to do evil things is not new and it saddens me that after all the history you mentioned in your article people just don’t learn, never before I paid attention to what happened to the Jews in Nazi Germany as do now , the way things happened to them have a different meaning now that because of my skin color I’m a target . Thank you for your article.
