Book Nerds Unite!
An example that we can all agree on (unless your MAGA)
I am a reader. I read books like it’s my job. Fiction, nonfiction, biography, fantasy, graphic novels and more. I have read some of the most amazing stories of perseverance, crime, while other different and all sorts philosophical discussion.
My love for reading started when my mother handed me the book that prefaced the Lord of the Rings, “The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien.
It changed my world. It also allowed me to enter many different worlds. In most cases, when it came to fiction, the good guy won and justice was served. Obviously there were outliers, maybe the main character didn't make it or there was some kind of tragic event. So fiction is most certainly a terrific escape.
Nonfiction on the other hand can be a whole lot different. I've read “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich”. I've read about some of the most heinous people that have existed. History has a tendency to repeat, just with different clothes, personalities and weapons. At the end of these historical narratives however, there is only one goal of these evil actors and that is power. It's that need to ruin one group of individuals in order to further their power and control over the perceived “others”.
Evil has a gravity all its own. When you see Putin attacking Ukraine, he falls further down that well and if he takes Ukraine we all know he will try to take Poland.
When Hitler went after the people who were gay, that was just the beginning and before long he was ending the lives of millions of innocent people. We can see these examples all through history, Stalin, Mussolini, Putin, Mao, Hussein and now Trump.
The attack from these men has always been a slow creep. One right is taken away, then another, then something big is removed and as the nations gradually normalize to these new rules, people start to disappear. Dissent gets silenced and the Press becomes just another weapon to control the narrative while not allowing for the truth to be revealed. Before long the country becomes unrecognizable and the authoritarian takes full control and rules by decree.
Today I read an article about Paul Perkins, an associate deputy attorney general, and Brian Nieves, a deputy chief of staff and senior policy counsel—were seeking access to the U.S. Copyright Office but were denied entry at around 9 a.m., sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity told The New York Times.
This was a spark of dissent that I really needed and it was done by the people that help run the Library of Congress. They stood up to those two cronies and told them no. They were librarians, protectors of knowledge, history and every form of education anyone could ever need. These people are heroes.
A DOJ official said President Donald Trump appointed Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche as acting Librarian of Congress. But the official who now holds that post, Robert Randolph Newlen, disputed a change had been made in an email to library staff Monday morning.
“Congress is engaged with the White House and we have not received direction from Congress about how to move forward,” Newlen wrote in an internal email to Library of Congress employees.
Newlen took over as acting Librarian of Congress Thursday after Trump fired Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden, cutting short her 10-year term.

There reasoning for the firing according to the succubus in chief Karoline Leavitt was that
“she did not fit the needs of the American people.”
She was a champion of diversity, equity and inclusion helping to engage with “underrepresented communities and add their perspectives to the Library’s collections.”
The succubus went on to say that Hayden was “putting inappropriate books in the library for children”. Once again showing her ignorance and outright inability to tell the truth. She doesn't realize that access to The Library of Congress is limited to people 16 years and older.
So I just want to say I am proud of our librarians. They stood up to this BS executive order. Will they ultimately be successful keeping these people from taking over the library? Probably not, but it goes to show that people are awake and aware the wrongdoing is being committed and no amount of excuses or buzzword acronyms like DEI or CRT are going to fool us anymore. Every small bit of resistance will serve as another slap back in the face of these idiots that are in charge.
I am proud of these people and the desire to stop these monsters from attempting to destroy our history, famous novels, music and art of many kinds.
Thank you for standing up for what is right my fellow bibliophiles. I admire you.
Love you all,
Erik
