I love both your dedication to preserving the peace and innocence of youth for your children, and your willingness to share a vision of the world that is light. This article doesn't just describe it manifests a vision for the future for all of us treated with dignity and respect. As someone who loves a visual I deeply appreciate the images you captured with the post as well. You are able to achieve something I always struggle with in my nature pictures-keeping the bright amazing colors of the world in the picture. Well done sir!

Wow, I am humbled. I don't even know what to say. Thank you. 🥹

Thank YOU sir, for sharing and continuing to manifest a world where all given respect and dignity, not out of legal obligation but out of societal default.

Hmm, caught myself starting to comment on something weightier, but that would actually be off-topic. I wholeheartedly agree we need those getaways, diversions, trips to the country, baseball games, whatever (those last two, for me, definitely). Not to escape, but to recharge and have a glimpse of what's possible.

I was getting to that, but here's the weightier part: while I don't think we'll ever right *every* wrong on this earth, that should be the constant, unending quest. It starts on the inside. Myself, I reject all forms of cynicism and resignation, especially to bad stuff that is NOT (all caps) inevitable. "Doomscrolling?" That's a fairly new one on me, but anymore, whenever I see that word - including when I typed it just now - I know it's time to stop, and take a no-scroll hour, or day, or weekend. Whatever it takes.

Keep up the good work, L-Dad! And be sure to enjoy those Sabbaths, whether solo or with the kids.

Thanks Wayne. I appreciate your take.

☺️ Camping helps by unleashing our mind, spirit, and soul. Spending time with family forms memories we hold forever. Time to take a deep breath, cleanse our mind… gently, steering us forward on the journey ahead. ✨🌌🌟🏕️

I should say also that those vacations were respite from school “get under your desk drills” when nuclear bombs and Communist Russia were our shared terrors in those days. So maybe each era needs to be escaped from briefly to bring us back from the edges of whatever troubles the news shares with us.

Your glorious photos brought vacation to my heart and remembering family vacations to California shores and lakes way back in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Thank you for a brief respite from what we all are tangled up in with Trump. Moments to catch my breath in wonder at the beautiful ordinariness of vacation sights and feelings! 🙏🙏🙏💕💕💕

I am glad I could share my family's adventures with you. Nothing crazy but just a sense of normalcy and enjoyment, getting away from the day to day.

As always Erik, thank you! I’ve had to do some crazy soul-searching lately as I found myself embracing the same kind of shame/blame and victim culture I so dislike on the right. Worse, the hate and anger I’ve worked so hard to eliminate or at least control in my life has found the back door and new targets. Unwelcome feelings as I’m fully aware they only destroy the one who holds them.

Amidst all of that a friend turned me on to Substack and what a relief that has been. To be able to largely be involved with like-minded souls, to read stories daily of people trying to pull us back on course, to see videos and pics of life in all its tenderness and light…a life saver.

You are a big part of that sir, thank you!

Jim, I'm so happy you found a place of refuge. Your words keep me inspired. Thank you

Families First Movement

On Saturday, July 26th, American families in every corner of the country will come together in peaceful marches, rallies and events to say: our families come first, and we will protect each other.

In all 50 states and Washington DC, we will put care over the cruel cuts and attacks on families that we’re seeing from Congress and the White House. We’re committing to ensuring that every one of our friends and neighbors knows they are not alone, and hears what’s at stake for families in our country right now.

Sign up to host or attend an event NOW to fight for our families and our future. Search "Families First" on Mobilize.us.

It’s a really really difficult time for the grownups. I don’t know that the kids (under 18) pay any mind. Plenty of horrible things went on in the 1950s and 60s when I was a youth - that I wasn’t aware of. News wasn’t 24/7. I was outside playing. Oblivious.

Hope we all can hang in.

Those who know my writing know that I often write about the unaware. All the people who don't seem to have a clue that our democracy is crashing down around us and we are losing our civil rights. But your words make me hope that maybe this new civil rights movement will pass and the children may will know how close they were to loses the freedoms they have always know. But the adults should be prepared for the evil yet to come so our maybe our kids will never know. Stand up America. Let's make Good Trouble and Strike! We must stop The tRump and his administration from hell! The demonic tRump and his billionaire oligarch only care about money. LET'S SHUT THIS FUCKIN’ COUNTRY DOWN!!!

General Strike US supporters are organizing a National Strike. The most powerful strikers are the workers who are employed by the national multi-billionaire companies like Amazon, chain stores and restaurants who have locations in nearly every state across the country, like Amazon, Walmart, McDonald's along with technology and auto, like Tesla, Apple, Meta, Alphabet workers like these will have the most impact. Keep your money in your own communities and support small grocery stores, restaurants and businesses instead.

The most important thing Non-Strikers and everyone can do is stop making the greedy billionaire oligarchs even richer. STOP SHOPPING and BUYING from INTERNATIONAL BILLION DOLLAR COMPANIES! Make yourselves richer and buy GROCERIES ONLY until we get the Limp Dick Traitor and his evil administration from hell, out of the White House and out of our government!!!

Yes! Remembering the ‘essential workers’ from the COVID years.

Most of them are not feeling essential now.

General Strike ?

Look to words of Mario Savio about a solution:

“And that -- that brings me to the second mode of civil disobedience. There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart that you can't take part! You can't even passively take part! And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus -- and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it -- that unless you're free the machine will be prevented from working at all!!

That doesn't mean -- I know it will be interpreted to mean, unfortunately, by the bigots who run The Examiner, for example -- That doesn't mean that you have to break anything. One thousand people sitting down some place, not letting anybody by, not [letting] anything happen, can stop any machine, including this machine! And it will stop!!
